This high-quality Maksutov telescope provides an ideal basis for both planetary and DSO observing. Its diameter makes it a 'fast' yet portable instrument. The Maksutov-Cassegrain system allows a long focal length to be combined with a relatively short OTA length. The central obstruction in the optics is minimal as the small secondary mirror has been directly vacuum deposited onto the meniscus lens. The meniscus lens gives very good contrast - for example ideal for planetary observing. The lens corrects for spherical aberration and its shape reduces chromatic aberration to a minimum. It comes supplied with a mounting plate.     This  high-quality Maksutov-Cassegrain  reflecting telescope comes with the  solid HEQ-5 GoTo mount .   The telescope consists of a  spherical primary mirror , a  meniscus-shaped correction lens  and a  secondary mirror  which has been vapour deposited onto the inside surface of the correction lens. There are no secondary mirror spider vanes to degrade the image. The design employs a relatively  small secondary mirror , hence keeping this obstruction to a minimum. The design also means the optics provide  excellent contrast and a sharp image  - comparable to that of a refractor. It is particularly good for  observing the Moon and planets . And, as the  tube is completely closed , it is insensitive to changes in temperature. As seen in the above diagram in the product photos, the light strikes the meniscus lens from the left and then proceeds to the primary mirror. This reflects the light back up the vapour deposited secondary mirror which subsequently reflects it back down to exit the OTA through the central hole in the main mirror. This design allows a telescope to be constructed which combines long focal length with short OTA length.   This high-quality ProSeries model comes with an elegantly designed tube, Maksutov optics, a stable HEQ-5 mount and a sturdy steel tripod.   The  high-quality HEQ-5 equatorial mount  provided turns this telescope into a high-precision instrument for exciting astronomical observing. The extensive features of the HEQ-5 include a  polar finder  - which lets you easily align the telescope correctly with the North Pole,  electric tracking motors on both right ascension and declination axes and aluminium scales . So before starting observing, you have only to align the equatorial mount with sky's North Pole before being able to operate the telescope using the handy SynScan hand box and motor controls - even perfect for beginners in astrophotography! The motors can go up to  a speed of 800X  and provide  resolution accurate  to 0.144 seconds of arc. The mount has a computer control system which lets you automatically  slew to any object in the database desired at the touch of a button . There are more than 13,000 pre-programmed objects, which may be supplemented by manually entered objects.   Any object can be easily slewed to after initial alignment using1 to 3 reference stars. The extremely quiet stepper motors  can slew the mount to objects at up to 3.4 degrees per second . It is also possible to use an autoguider.   The HEQ-5 SkyScan Pro can be controlled via PC  by means of the supplied RS-232 cable and planetarium software (not included in delivery).   Similar to illustration.
